Something so rare…

Last night, as I was working on some pictures, Jack came to me, and asked to sit in my lap.  Thrown off by the question, a question I hadn’t heard in AGES from one of my children, I obliged.

He hopped in my lap, nuzzled his nose into my neck, and wrapped his arms around me tightly.

I was instantly taken back to his younger days.  Days when that curly headed toddler would wobble up to me, sippy cup in one hand, blankie in the other, climb in my lap, and just settle into me.  Those are the moments from their childhoods, that I’ll never forget.

It was such a welcomed bit of nostalgia.

For, lately, there are too many creeks to explore, trees to climb, things with wheels to ride, friends to play with, video games to beat, and movies to watch, for him to have time to sit with his mom like this.

The best part…well, the second best part…he had just gotten out of the shower!  So, he was clean…another rarity these days!!

There we sat.

I slowly began to rock, and soaked up as much of my baby boy as I could, for as long as he’d sit with me.

After a little while, (could’ve been minutes, or hours, for all I know, I was lost in it!), he lifted his head, looked me in the eyes, and said, “Mom?“

“Yeah, buddy,” I replied, readying myself for something insightful and sweet from my youngest boy.

“You smell old!”

Thanks, son…you smell like feet, if I’m being honest!!

Holy Crap! I just busted out laughing, after having such sweet & snuggly thoughts in my head.

The thing I will miss the most about my son growing up, is his ever decreasing desire to snuggle me.

I just wrote a thread on BF about my daughter turning 8...and how things sure do change...my baby is 2 I realized the other day that now I have to figure out how to be a mother to "kids" not babies...

...and why do the boys ALWAYS smell like feet??? The least bit of activity and they stink again...it baffles me...

They always have to go and ruin the momet, damn boys!! The first part was sweet! Nate was never a cuddler until he saw that his baby sister is. Call it jealousy or maybe he realized what he'd been missing, but he is a lot more cuddly these days!

That is so sweet. Our even though they are younger than yours sometimes come up to Tracy and I and ask for Mommy and Daddy time. And Nikki, sometimes its better to smell old than look old. The smell goes away, the look stays. Unless you get plastic.

I was totally melting like sugar as reading this until I hit the end... HILARIOUS and typical coming from a boy.

I was so absorbed in your story, thinking about sweet cuddling moments with my curly headed boy, and then I nearly swallowed my gum! BAHAHAHAHA! That was too funny!!

I just love those moments with my baby girl!! I still get to enjoy them a lot, even at 8 yrs old...thank goodness!! I'm not looking forward to the time it all stops. Makes me sad even thinking about it. :o(

Oh man! When exactly does one start to smell old?!? Do I smell old?!? Will Jack come to Alaska and smell me please?

OMG, that is classic!!! My kids would totally ruin the moment too with a comment like that.

So basically you're saying I should enjoy my little ones now while they can still fit in my lap and WANT me to hold them?? It's kinda hard to do that when I'm wiping their crappy asses all day long and yelling at them to stop spitting on each other...but I'll try.
